There's lots of discussion around whether experiences like childhood trauma may be linked to ADHD. Some experts suggest that ADHD may be a coping mechanism developed in response to a trauma, or even that early trauma might trigger ADHD. Others, however, believe that while trauma can intensify ADHD symptoms, it can't cause it.
