Dechreuwn drafod Beirdd y Tywysogion yn y bennod hon gan agor cil y drws ar gorff sylweddol o farddoniaeth Gymraeg hynod gain sydd hefyd yn hynod bwysig o safbwynt astudio hanes Cymru. Cawn gyfle i ystyried arwyddocâd Llawysgrif Hendregadredd (y llawysgrif sydd wedi diogelu’r rhan fwyaf o’r cerddi hyn), gwaith rhyfeddol o ddiddorol gan ei fod yn ffrwyth ymdrech i gofnodi barddoniaeth oes y Tywysogion yn fuan iawn ar ôl i’r cyfnod hwnnw yn hanes Cymru ddod i ben. Edrychwn ar waith y cyntaf o Feirdd y Tywysogion, Meilyr Brydydd, a’r arweinydd yr oedd yn canu mawl iddo, Gruffudd ap Cynan. Dyma gyfle i egluro termau ychydig hefyd (a oes gwahaniaeth rhwng ‘y Gogynfeirdd’ a ‘Beirdd y Tywysogion’, er enghraifft?). // Political Poetry: The Poets of the Princes We begin discussing the Poets of the Princes in this episode, opening the door to a considerable body of incredibly artful verse which is incredibly important when it comes to studying Welsh history. We will consider the significance of the Hendregadredd Manuscript (the manuscript which has preserved most of these poems), a wonderfully interesting work which because it is the result of an effort to record the poetry of the age of the Princes shortly after that period in the history of Wales came to an end. We look at the work of the first of the Poets of the Princes, Meilyr Brydydd, and the leader for whom he composed praise, Gruffudd ap Cynan. Here's an opportunity to clarify terminology a little as well (for example, is there a difference between the ‘Gogyfeirdd’, or ‘Rather Early Poets’, and ‘the Poets of the Princes’?)
