Yr Hen Iaith

Yr Hen Iaith (Lefel A) - Mis Mai a Mis Tachwedd

24 Apr 2025

Description

‘Mis Mai a Mis Tachwedd’ Trafodwn un o gerddi natur Dafydd ap Gwilym yn y bennod hon, sef y cywydd enwog sy’n cyferbynnu mis Mai a’r mis ‘dig du’. Gan ystyried dwy thema gysylltiedig sy’n ganolog i waith Dafydd, cariad a natur, nodwn fod y bardd yn croesawu dyfodiad mis Mai gan ei fod yn arwyddo dechrau haf – tymor sy’n caniatáu iddo gyfarfod â’i gariad(on). Craffwn ar y modd y mae Dafydd yn personoli mis Mai ac awgrymu’i fod yn defnyddio rhai o nodweddion y canu mawl, gan wneud yr elfennau traddodiadol hyn yn rhan o’i gyfansoddiad gwreiddiol ef. ** ‘May and November’ In this episode we discuss one of Dafydd ap Gwilym’s nature poems, namely the famous cywydd which contrasts the month of May with the ‘dark angry’ month. While considering two connected themes which are central to Dafydd’s work, love and nature, we note that the poem welcomes May as it signifies the beginning of summer – the season which allows him to meet his lover(s). We examine the way in which Dafydd personifies the month of May and suggest that he uses some aspects of praise poetry, making these traditional elements part of his original composition.
