Bereits 1896 gründeten Professoren den "Volks-Hoch-Schul-Verein München". Wissen sollte auch dem einfachen Volk zugänglich gemacht werden. Bis heute ist Erwachsenenbildung eine öffentliche Aufgabe. Nur sind die Kursinhalte der Volkshochschulen mittlerweile ganz andere.
