水星是八大行星中最靠近太阳的行星。水星的结构跟地球很像，但是水星上面没有大气层，这是为什么呢？水星的大气非常少，主要成份包括42%的氦、42%的汽化钠和15%的氧。因为没有大气的调节，距离太阳又非常近，所以早晚温度相差几百度，最高为427℃，最低为零下173℃。因此水星上应该不会存在水，所以也就不太可能形成大气了。水星事实上还在不断的损失其大气气体成分。由于水星的白天温度及其高，组成水星大气的钾和钠原子会飘逸到太空中，只有大约3个小时水星日的平均“寿命”。因此，正如罗门博士指出的那样“你需要不断的进行补充方能维持大气层的存在。”这就是水星上为什么没有大气的原因。
