種田山頭火は極貧で放浪の旅を続けながら、句を詠み続けたたことで名高い歌人です。生き方も作風も自由にして放埓な印象がありますが、酒に溺れ家庭を壊して出家し旅に出る前の山頭火は、日々の小商いに追われる鬱屈の日々を繰り返していました。この「白い路」はその頃の自分を描いた作品です。山頭火を山頭火たらしめたのは、繰り返される終わりなき日常だったのか、そんなことを創造させます。
