【鏡花怪異譚】明治28年発表 武家の娘お小夜（さよ）は雄の黒猫を飼っている。 その目に入れても痛くないほどの溺愛ぶりにお小夜の母は、（物語「南総里見八犬伝」の中で犬と結婚した）伏姫を重ねてお小夜を揶揄する。 ある日お小夜の家へ盲人の富の市が訪ねてくる。 富の市は生まれつきの盲目ではなく、十六歳の頃に病で視力を失ったのである。 お小夜に恋焦がれる富の市は、慎みなく他家へと出入りをする。 そんな富の市をお小夜やお小夜の家のもの達は疎ましく思っていたがーーー
