大家以前看港产片，经常都会见到道士画符作法捉鬼的情节。事实上传统中国民间对于鬼神之事颇为紧张，遇到什么事情，往往都会请道士作法，祈福消灾，而道士作法的工具里面，符就是非常重要的一种。所谓符，一般是一张黄纸，道士以朱砂在上面写上与鬼神沟通的符号，通过焚烧起作用。这些符号自成体系，因为一般人不会辨认，所以称为“天书”。据说有一次，有个道士帮一户人家作法捉鬼。但经过三番四次作法，烧了无数张符，都没办法把这只鬼搞定。等到作法的符纸烧光，道士无计可施，唯有对主人家说：“这鬼实在是太猛，我冇晒符了。”后来，大家就用“冇晒符”，来表达“冇计”、“没办法”的意思了。
