粤语里面形容人阿谀奉承，除了拍马屁之外，还有一个讲法：托大脚。这个词的出处据说来源于唐朝武则天时代。但是武则天做了女皇，虽然没有三宫六院，但养几个男宠也算是题中之义。当时她有个男宠叫冯小宝，很得武则天宠爱。不过因为不想太过张扬，所以安排这个冯小宝出家为僧，还改名叫薛怀义。因为得宠，这个薛怀义一时之间颇有权势，很多人都积极巴结他。他有个随从叫张岌，更是做得十分出位，日常服侍周到之余，一见薛怀义要上马，就马上趴在地上，捧着薛怀义的脚帮他上马。这一幕被人见到，自然看张岌不起，于是就将这种拍马屁的行为称为“托大脚”了。
