不论古今中外，在数字上造假都是人类的惯用伎俩。粤语里面对于数字造假，一般称之为“笃数”，意思是数字随便乱笃，除此之外，粤语里面还有一个歇后语也和数字造假有关，叫”死人灯笼——报大数“。这个歇后语源自于一个旧习俗，以前一家之中如果有老人去世，就会在大门前挂一对报丧的灯笼，用大黑字在上面标明姓氏，然后再以小字标明死者的终年岁数。一般来讲，这个岁数都会比死者的实际年龄要大，因为以前计算年龄，有所谓”天一岁，地一岁，人一岁“的说法，所以一般灯笼上标注的岁数会比死者实际年龄大三岁。于是，就有了这个“死人灯笼——报大数”的说法啦。
