《帕尔瓦蒂（喜马拉雅山雪山女神）》，克什米尔，10世纪，镶银铜合金，鲁宾艺术博物馆馆藏。 喜马拉雅艺术其实是一个概括性的词，对沿着西藏高原、亚洲中部和北部一带喜马拉雅地区的特殊风格创作的作品，通常使用“喜马拉雅艺术”或“喜马拉雅风格艺术”这一术词，这是对共有文化的统称。 众所周知，古印度是四大文明古国之一。古印度有一东一西两条大河，也就是恒河与印度河。这两条大河背靠喜马拉雅山脉，西面是中亚大陆、南部是印度次大陆平原。最早的印度文明便是古印度文明，发源于印度河流域。公元前2500年左右，西北部的雅利安人进入进度印度，和印度原有的民族融合，诞生了新的文化思想———吠陀文化。吠陀意思是“知识”，相比于宗教，更像是印度哲学，也是印度文明的精神奠基。
