加入“365天英语学习计划”，每天进步一点点！ 1. put one’s foot in one’s mouth 说错话、搞砸事情foot 是「脚」的意思，想象你把脚放到嘴巴的画面，一定很尴尬或觉得很糗，用以延伸形容言语失当，「说错话、搞砸事情」的意思。I didn’t mean to put my foot in my mouth at the meeting yesterday.我昨天在会议上并不是故意说错话的。2. have a green thumb 有园艺天分green 让人联想到「植物、植栽」，讲一个人有绿色的拇指，就是形容他很有园艺天分。也可以用 green thumb 指称有园艺天分的人。My grandfather has a green thumb, he plants a lot of flowers in our garden.我爷爷很有园艺天份，他在庭院里中了许多花。3. all thumbs 笨手笨脚想象你的手指头全部变成拇指，做事情一定非常不方便吧！因此 all thumbs 是形容一个人笨手笨脚，也有形容某人对某事「一窍不通」的意思。thumb 在这边要用复数，记得要加 s 变成 thumbs 喔！I’m all thumbs when it comes to cooking.我对烹饪一窍不通。4. cross one’s fingers 祈求好运西方习俗中，将食指与中指交叉，是一种祈求好运、祈祷、祝他人成功的意思。A: I have an interview this Friday. My hands are so sweaty.B: Take it easy. I have my fingers crossed for you.A：我星期五要面试，好紧张喔！B：放轻松！我会为你祝福的！5. have sticky fingers 习惯偷东西sticky 是「黏的」，有黏黏的手指，可以想象用手指黏东黏西，就是这边偷一点、那边偷一点，顺手牵羊的感觉。It is said that the clerk of the restaurant turned out to have sticky fingers.据说那间餐厅的店员手脚不干净。6. give a hand 帮忙听到他人对你说 give me a hand，千万不要以为别人要你断手断脚，虽然照字面解释是「给我一只手」，但延伸的意思是「伸出援手帮助他人」，也可说 lend me a hand，同义的还有 do me a favor。另外，give someone a big hand 并不是要你帮某人一个大忙，而是给他热烈的掌声。Could you give me a hand？Please inform all the interns to come to the meeting room.你可以帮我一个忙吗？帮我通知所有实习生到会议室一趟。Ladies and gentlemen, please give our winner a big hand!各位女士与先生，让我们给这次的赢家一个热烈的掌声吧！7. cost an arm and a leg 非常昂贵要花费你一只手臂和一条腿的东西，想必一定是很昂贵囉？所以这个词组就是象征「需要付出相当大的代价」，也指「很昂贵」的意思。昂贵的夸饰说法还有：cost a fortune、cost a bundle、cost big bucks。I’d like to travel to Dubai, but the travelling expenses might cost me an arm and a leg.我想去杜拜旅游，但旅费非常昂贵。8. have butterflies in one’s stomach 焦躁、坐立难安胃里有蝴蝶是指「非常紧张」，想象有一只蝴蝶在你胃里飞来飞去，肯定是让人感到非常烦躁吧！也可说 break out in a cold sweat ，意指「紧张到让人直冒冷汗」。I have butterflies in my stomach because I have to give a speech in front of my class tomorrow.我觉得很紧张，因为我明天要当着全班的面演讲。 9. pull one’s leg 开某人玩笑pull 是「拉」的意思，拉某人的脚可能会让你误会成扯后腿的意思，但扯后腿叫 hold someone back .  pull one’s leg 是指「逗弄某人、开某人玩笑」。Stop pulling my leg, that’s not funny.不要再开我的玩笑了，一点都不有趣。有兴趣学习可以我的Wechat： oralenglish
