腸内細菌と共生しているのは、人間だけではない。むしろ、口から何かを食べて、おしりからウンコをして生きている生きものはすべて、腸内細菌に何らかの形で消化やその他もろもろを手伝ってもらっている。腸内細菌が疾患の発生や健康に関わっていることは、人間でもマウス実験でも示されている。それはつまり、犬や猫などのペットの腸内細菌叢だって、健康に大きく関わっているということを意味する。だとしたら、腸内細菌叢移植（FMT、便移植）の対象は、ヒトだけではなくペットにまで広がっていいはずだ。今日は、ペットへの腸内細菌叢移植を実施されている兵庫みなと動物病院の豊福祥生先生にお話を伺った。
