从前四川地方有两个和尚：一个是很富的，一个是很穷的。有一天，穷和尚对富和尚说：“我想往普陀去。”富和尚大惊道：“普陀这样远，你怎能去呢？我想去，预备了几年，还没有动身。你办了多少旅费去？”穷和尚道：“我没有预备旅费。我只预备了一个瓶，一个钵，打算沿路讨饭去。”富和尚只笑了一笑，也没有说什么旁的话。过了一年多，穷和尚已经到普陀去过，又回来了。他再去访富和尚。富和尚一句话也没有得说，只是惭愧。（原出彭端叔文）
