Her activism led to treason accusations and death threats that forced her children abroad. However, Venezuela's Supreme Justice Tribunal upheld a ban preventing her from holding office, citing allegations of supporting US sanctions. In August, she briefly emerged to join street protests in Caracas, dressed in white, telling supporters they had never been stronger. Maduro's government accused her of conspiracy and dismissed the incident as a media distraction orchestrated by "fascists."
