Following last time's 70s Eagles hit "Desperado," this week on English Cafe, John and Shimin take everyone into the 80s to explore Bette Midler's classic "The Rose"! This superstar who has won four Golden Globes and three Grammys has actually released 14 albums, but most people know her from movies! What makes this song special is that it has no chorus at all—the three verses each describe different aspects of love. Do you think love is more like a river or a razor? Shimin also shares her experience from years ago when she was performing at a seaside venue in Sanzhi and received a song request—it was a wonderful memory of performing a song she had never practiced before!
