Well, it is wonderful to see all of you. And I'll wait for everyone to get seated before we begin. First of all, congratulations to all of you. This is an exciting day. We remember this well. Um s for some of us it was Few years ago. Uh, but I'll tell you that wait from the bar exam until uh we figured out that we had passed was a very long wait. And so congratulations to each and every one of you. Congratulations to your family, to your friends.

How do the presiding justices congratulate and welcome the new admittees?

It's a big day and we are excited. It's really one of those days that we love being a part of because we know what you have gone through, we know what you are looking forward to in the future. Uh you're looking at some very happy judges and justices. We love what we do. Uh we loved being attorneys. Um it was fun, exciting, interesting. Working in the Fresno legal community is really, I think, um it Wonderful experience. You have You have great attorneys working in our community. It's small enough so you actually get to know one another, which is nice. Large enough so that you get some big cases, interesting cases, trend setting cases. So you will be looking forward to what I think will be a wonderful career.

And we uh congratulate all of you. At this time, some of my My colleagues are going to share some thoughts with you, and I'd like to turn to our newest justice here at the Fifth District Court of Appeal, Justice Arlen Hurrell.

Thank you, Presiding Justice Hill. Folks, it's not by chance that we are here today. These women and men worked hard to get into law school to complete their studies and to pass the California bar examination. They know and we know that they did not complete this daunting task without a great deal of support from others. No one ever has. So congratulations to each of you, the attendees' guests, who helped them to get to this wonderful moment in their professional lives. Now to the admittees. Each of you no doubt entered law school and aspired to join the legal profession with a purpose in mind, something that you wanted to accomplish as a lawyer. At this point, only a few bits of advice from us and an oath or two stand in the way of your gaining the privilege of practicing law in California.

Please take to heart the commitment that you make when you take the attorney oath. In fact, I suggest that you obtain a copy of the oath to review regularly throughout your legal career. Of course the oath addresses supporting the federal and state constitutions, but as importantly, your oath addresses how you are to conduct yourself as attorneys and counselors of law. You are to act with dignity. Courtesy and integrity at all times. Conducting yourself in this way will help you to successfully fulfill your purpose for becoming a lawyer.
