What procedural introductions and case setup are given at the start of the hearing?

Good morning, everyone. Please go ahead and have a seat. Welcome to the 6th District Court of Appeal for oral argument this morning. I see Ms. Rodriguez is joining us remotely. Good morning to you also.
Ms. Rodriguez 1:55
Good morning, Your Honor.
Unknown 1:57
We have effectively two matters on calendar this morning. Our first three cases have been consolidated for purposes of argument and briefing and decision. Then there'll be a panel change, and we will take up our remaining criminal matter. So I'll go ahead and invite appearances on the black matter after the panel change. And as to the... marriage of Rodriguez and Craig, we have no participation in the appeals from Mr. Craig. So Ms. Rodriguez will be presenting her argument this morning. And Ms. Rodriguez, we have approved your request for 30 minutes to argue and also approved your request that you complete your presentation without interruption. And then we'll hold off on any questions until the end. The only remaining thing I'll mention, well, two things.
Unknown 2:57
Number one, you'll give us a moment here to... connect our devices. We do have access to electronic briefs and records, so if you see us looking to our laptops, that is what we're doing. And then secondly, just to clarify the calendar this morning, initially the calendar was posted with the first three cases anonymized. And Ms. Rodriguez, you've requested that the full names in the caption appear both in the decisions caption and on the calendar. And I just want to clarify that in often juvenile matters, family court matters, we will use initials. And that's under Rule of Court 8.90 of the California Rules of Court, just to protect the privacy of parties where the litigation might contain personal information.
Unknown 3:54
But since it's your request that we not do that, that's easy to grant and actually makes it easier for the court not to have to change the names. So you would ask for an explanation. That's what it is. It comes from the rule of court, but we're happy to include your full name here. So with that, if you are ready to proceed, we look forward to hearing your arguments this morning.
Ms. Rodriguez 4:21
Okay, thank you. Thank you, Your Honor. Good morning, Your Honors. Thank you for the opportunity to present oral arguments here today in support of my appeal from the final judgment in Rodriguez versus Craig. I would like to begin with a brief summary before addressing the legal arguments in four key areas. Am I not equal to my ex-husband, Mr. Nathan Craig? No litigant should ever have to endure the harassment, the bias, and the discrimination that I suffered at the hands of Honorable Judge Stuart J. Scott. Four and a half years of litigation, over 33 hearings, trial dates lasting hours and hours, not including all the other court cases that stem from this one, over 75 hearings, trial dates in total,
Ms. Rodriguez 5:10
Again and again, Honorable Judge Scott engaged in conduct unworthy of the bench. Name calling, demonizing, railroading, condescending remarks and belittling questions that had nothing to do with my case. He questioned my IQ. He questioned why I came to California. He questioned my SAT scores. He questioned my lifestyle. He questioned my disabilities. He did everything but provide impartial judicial oversight. in more than 33 hearings i was berated interrupted silenced my rights trampled ridiculed nagged again and again i was treated not as a litigant seeking justice but as someone who could be humiliated as someone treated with no value as someone stripped of dignity as someone denied rights as someone who deserves no property as someone who desert who does not deserve support even though california law requires it
Ms. Rodriguez 6:01
No one should have to endure what I endured, and there's no reason for this case, as simple as it is, to last four and a half years. And so today, I call on the appeals court to affirm my value, to restore my dignity, to make the math finally add up, and to provide justice as is required by the law. Am I not equal to Mr. Nathan Craig? Did I not bear his children? Did I not give my health, my years, to our family, to him?
