And today with the um Charlotte City Council committees and we want to have what they have done as an output or an information item so that we can make sure that everybody understands what each other is doing. I think it's Mr. Bakari could do this next on our our um Committee. On economic development.
Sure uh sure. Glad to do it. Um Mr. Driggs, the co chair, can chime in, but I'll hit the uh the uh high points. Um we discussed uh the arts funding strategy uh which was referred to committee and while we didn't get into the weeds of what the ultimate strategy should be we took a deep dive look at the hospitality funds at the affordability going forward of those funds for the long term and we determined uh as a group um to take a vote and the position on that one Uh that while the arts discussion there's more to be had and and more needed, we were going to recommend Did we vote on that? Yes. We did vote on that. Uh recommend not to um to consider those funds to be utilized for it. You can add to that if you'd like.
Um so we did receive a detailed presentation on the anticipated uses of hospitality funds And uh their intended uses, their allowed uses, and and I think the upshot was that uh The the hospitality business is kind of a standalone sector. The industry incurs those costs through the tax uh and delivers great value with their use of the proceeds. So I I think the the view that uh I expressed and I think was shared was that we should use our general fund to fund the arts. One c critical point that was made was the volatility of hospitality funding. is such that you can have a steep drop off as we experienced during the recession. It's not the most reliable source of continuing funding for the arts. So the unanimous conclusion of the committee was that we should continue to f fund the arts from the general fund.
And Mr. Dreeks, I think that will come up as the manager is preparing the new budget and as well as what we'll be talking about at our um strategic retreat for twenty twenty five. Is that the first one? Right. I think the
the committee dealt with the referral on the question of the accessing hospitality funds and having heard a detailed explanation, it's the recommendation of the recommendation of the committee that we not do that, that we go with the general fund.

That's yours. Yeah, I mean the same same committee. Um and the with there were two other topics. One was a uh good but brief one with the uh chair of the um uh business Uh What's the business committee? The committee that we have? Business advisory committee. The business advisory committee. I served on it. Can't remember the name. I think he
served a very long time. I did, yeah, obviously. It gets worse and worse as we get
older. Getting older. Uh but it's always good to have those updates and they are interested in some particular small business uh related initiatives that once again we will work with staff uh to try to align. And then finally um the more complicated one uh which happens also reside in my district. The three rezonings that are happening simultaneously. this month on Providence with uh Um the three petitioners that have brought it forward. This was to hear about the the uh TIG, the tax increment grant request that is also simultaneously running through the economic development committees of the city and the county.
