Vice Mayor Chau is not joined us yet for the dais. Mayor Moore? Present. Right. Madam City Attorney, do we have any closed session reports? We do not tonight. Okay, thank you. For ceremonial items, we begin by taking a moment to recognize Pride Month. Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of LGBTQ plus individuals and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring all residents feel welcome and valued in our community. I'd also like to recognize representatives from the Santa Clara County Office of LGBTQ Affairs who are with us this evening and thank them for the important work they do. That is Sarah Fernando and Becca Ponce Valencia. And I invite everyone to join the city for our pride flag raising ceremony June 10th at 3 30 p.m In the Civic Center Plaza on behalf of our City Council I wish everyone a happy Pride Month and what our representatives from the county like to make some brief comments.

Yes, hello, as mentioned, my name is Becca Ponce Valencia. My pronouns are she, her, hers, and I work in the county of Santa Clara Office of LGBTQ Affairs. For folks who may not be familiar with our work, our office was established in 2016, making it the first county-level office of its kind in California and nationwide, also making this our 10-year anniversary. We invite each of you to come celebrate with us on June 12th, where we'll host a Lavender graduation for high school and college students, followed by a flag raising resource fair and community performances. Pride is such a fantastic time of year, right? It's a time when we come together as a community to celebrate, to remember our histories, to honor our elders and uplift our youth.

But pride is also a time of deep remembrance. It's a time to speak aloud and preserve the histories that are actively being erased, because if we do not tell them ourselves, someone else will decide them for us. And that warning is ringing very loudly right now. We're living through a time when our federal government has launched an unprecedented wave of attacks targeting LGBTQ plus people, most harmfully our transgender siblings. Executive orders strip legal recognition, bans on gender-affirming care for young people, and the erasure of trans identities from federal records and protections, and the attempts to remove us from all visibility. These are direct attacks on the lives, safety, and well-being of the real people in our community.

it remains important now as it is ever that to remember that pride itself was born from moments like these from the generations who fought so we could stand here today and we honor them by refusing to be quiet and this fight cannot be done alone we ask that not only in pride month but in all the months moving forward that we are joined by our courageous allies people who are willing to do the work, to listen, to learn, and to stand with us just not in our celebratory moments, but through our hardest times, in the loudest rooms, and when they stand at the ballot box. It means speaking up when anti-LGBTQ plus rhetoric enters your spaces and using your platforms to protect the identities, dignities, and rights of our LGBTQ plus community members.

That type of allyship is not optional anymore. It is necessary and it remains active need. I invite you all to celebrate with our community, but I challenge you to keep showing up when June ends. And I wish you all a very happy Pride Month.
