Good morning, everyone. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to our board meeting of August 26, 2025. And we have a packed house of excited student athletes, which is always one of our more fun uh board meetings. Uh but before we recognize them, we are gonna have to do a few things. Uh one, uh I'm gonna ask my colleagues if there's anyone they would like to keep in our thoughts and prayers after that. Uh for those who are EBL, we will rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. Allegiance, and then we'll move into uh the presentations of recognizing our student athletes. And I do want to announce a few folks who uh sadly we need to keep in our prayers uh this morning. Uh first is uh Jane Edmondson. Uh Jane is a was a long time is a longtime county employee in the Drainsville district.

She's been experiencing some very serious uh health issues. She had open heart surgery. Followed by a seizure and has been hospitalized now for many weeks. It's a very serious condition. I've been in contact with Supervisor John Faust. Many of us know Jane from all her years working for the Board of Supervisors and certainly working for Super Advisor John Faust. We know her husband, Jim, and the work that he does in affordable housing and their entire family, and I've been in contact with the family. contact uh with their daughter. Uh she is currently at ANOVA getting treatment but again um is facing some very serious health challenges. So if we can keep Jane and the Edmondson family in our thoughts and prayers, this hits close uh to us as a board of supervisors uh when one of our longtime staff, uh chiefs of staff in the Drainsville district is facing such uh health challenges.

Uh secondly, I I need to sadly inform the board of The passing of Rex Remington Stone. He passed away on August 10th following complications from COVID. And I think this is kind of an eye-opener to all of us with the challenges that we faced with COVID. He was a graduate of both Clifton Elementary and Robinson Secondary. Rex was a Fairfax County employee for 12 years, with the majority of that time spent at the archives within the Department of Information Technology. His supervisor described him as the go to Tex Text in the office for their computer system and a wonderful human being. Uh Rex passed away way too early. Uh he was a a relatively young man. Uh and if we could keep Rex, uh our Department of Information Technology, uh and his family in our thoughts and prayers, it would be appreciated.

And then finally, I'm going to mention one that I I I know at least one or two of my colleagues is wanna gonna wanna comment on as well, and that of course is the passing of of Phil Rosenthal. Um it's with sadness that we learned the passing of Phil Rosenthal on August 16th. Uh Phil served as our county, uh served our county as a trustee on the Fairfax County Library Board of Trustees, as well as a member of the Community Action Advisory Board. Uh his commitment to our county did not end there. Um I know many of us would regularly see Phil out at community events all over the county. Um and he was a regular at our fire and rescue department coat drives and uh some of the things that uh he uh supported and his company supported for um our young people and our school children.

Um and his sudden loss was uh it r a real tragedy, not just for for the library board but for so many people uh in our community. and all the boards, authorities, and commissions that Phil uh served on. I it wasn't long ago I saw him. Um I think many of us would see him out and about and uh he just seemed as energetic as ever. And so this was a a real sudden loss and uh if we could keep Phil Rosenthal and his family in our thoughts and prayers and uh he was Supervisor Heredy's uh appointee and I know close friend and at this time I'd recognize Supervisor Hardy.

Uh thank you so much Mr. Chairman for uh for recognizing the the uh sudden loss of uh Phil Rosenthal. uh at eighty two years old or young I should say because he lived he lived he lived very young. Um he'd been in the D C area for over fifty years where he grew uh his local business Nationwide Credit Corp from a two person operation into one of the region's most respected and successful accounts receivable firms.
