Good morning. Good morning, everyone. Thank you for being here. As you can see, Chairman McKay is not here today. And I get the honor of chairing this meeting. So welcome everyone to the meeting. I am going to start before we do anything else with a motion to permit remote participation in board meeting of February 6, 2024. and if Supervisor Palachuk will act as Vice Chair. Before we get started, Chairman McKay will be participating remotely in the meeting today due to an illness that prevents his physical attendance. Mr. Chairman, I would ask you to state your name and general location for the record.

I am, Madam Chairman. I'm sad to announce the passing of Judy Bright on January 28th. She was a longtime resident of West Springfield and Fairfax Station. Many know her from her active membership with Seidenstreicher United Methodist Church for nearly 45 years. She was the proud wife of an Air Force and Vietnam veteran. Her good-hearted nature and her commitment to those she loved earned her the CAM Community Leadership Award and a lobby plaque with her name on it inscribed at the Fairfax at Belvoir Woods facility. She's going to be missed, and I ask that we keep Judy's family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you, Madam Chair. Sad to share the news, and board members probably are aware of this, that Sunday morning we experienced a tragedy in the Braddock District. Yun Hu from Annandale was killed in a car accident at the intersection of Bradfield Drive and Braddock Road. She was in a car that was attempting to make a left turn across four lanes of traffic on Braddock Road, one of those really dangerous intersections, unsignalized intersections and movements that we have in the county, unfortunately did not survive. There were four other passengers treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital. Two remain hospitalized as of today, and it's just an important reminder about

how dangerous it is when we get in our cars and how important it is to be as cautious as possible. The other thing I'll share is on Braddock Road, this is the second fatality that we have had in the last six to nine months The first was a pedestrian fatality at an unsafe crosswalk. This weekend we had a traffic fatality at an unsafe, unsignalized intersection. Both of those locations will be changed and fixed and made safer with the completion of the Braddock Road Multimodal Improvement Project that we are fighting to get across the finish line as we speak, working closely with VDOT and the community. It's a challenging project and folks have a lot of strong views about it. But it is so important that we make these safety improvements.
