Good morning, everyone, and welcome to our Board of Supervisors meeting of June 10th, 2025. And we have a lot on this morning's agenda and a packed house, which is great to see. We are going to do what we always do, which is we will start our meeting with remembrances to folks in our community that we've lost. We will then, for those who are able, will stand for a moment of silence. to be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. And then after that, we'll move into our more formal presentations. And as we start this morning, I know every member of this board and many folks in our Fairfax County community begin our meeting with a heavy heart. It's been a tough six months for Fairfax County with the passing of, first, Supervisor Hyland, which we memorialized at a previous board meeting, and then, of course,

Last month, we lost a legend in Fairfax County and Congressman and Chairman Connolly, and of course, our supervisor from Hunter Mill District, previous supervisor, Kathy Hudgens, shortly thereafter. And so we're going to begin our meeting today first. We're going to play a video tribute to Congressman Connolly. I'm going to ask my colleagues if they want to share any thoughts after that video. We then will play a tribute video to the life of Supervisor Kathy Hudgens. and again we'll ask if anyone would like to provide additional comments on that and then after that we will recognize others in our community that we have lost and want to keep in our thoughts and prayers this morning since the last time the board of supervisors met and before we play congressman connolly's video i think everyone knows sadly we lost congressman connolly last month after a battle with esophageal cancer

And Jerry was a friend and mentor of mine for 30 years. And I know a lot of people in this auditorium can say the same thing about Jerry being a friend and mentor for, in some cases, more than 30 years. His tenacity and vision, of course, made Fairfax County the powerhouse that it is today. And I know, having served with him, that his impact is felt on all of us at this dais, who he represented throughout his career. a true public servant. And no matter what elected office he held, Jerry always made time for everyone and to have the personal conversations with people. And I know since his passing, just the number of people who have come up to me and told me stories about the difference in their lives that Jerry made and wanted to share that real impact with us.

Because at the end of the day, at a lot of legislative successes, Certainly the Cross County Trail and Oakton Library jump out, but I think his true legacy is in the personal relationships that he had with so many people in this auditorium and watching. And to honor Jerry, our friends at Channel 16, as they always do in moments like this, have put together a tribute video, and at this time I would ask that we play that video.
