Good morning, everyone, and welcome to our board meeting of June 25th, 2024. And we are going to begin our board meeting as we always do, which is asking my colleagues if they have anyone they would like to keep in their thoughts and prayers. After that, we will rise for a moment of silence to be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. And I'm going to begin this morning to... I recognize Feyra Desiree Benia Ruby, 26-year-old of Springfield, and for those of you who've followed this tragic news, the Fairfax County Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances of her death, and our hearts go out to her family and to all those who have been impacted. I know that Farah was a graduate of John Lewis High School and this has affected a lot of her classmates and so if we could keep her and her family and our thoughts and prayers this morning that would be appreciated.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. On Wednesday, June 12th, our community lost a true culinary visionary with the passing of Josh

Plant. He was the owner of the Fermented Pig. Josh touched countless people through his love of food, moreover serving others in Fairbanks County. His unbridled success in our community at countless farmers markets, selling his products to neighbors, families, and friends, And then when he was asked by Wolf Trap to take over the ovation, serving guests before concerts and employing over 45 people to run the venue each night. In 2022, Josh partnered with the team from Settle Down Easy Brewing to open the Oakton Tasting Room and quickly built a place for the community to gather, share stories, and celebrate life. Josh plant a passionate leader and a Vienna locals was a beloved mentor father cherished member of the Fairfax County culinary community and he will be deeply missed.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I just want to echo some comments you made regarding Farah. I just want to note that she was certainly beloved throughout the community. And I just want to acknowledge that one of the comments her mother made about her, which I felt resonated very strongly with me, that she was a girl who made herself of service to others if you needed help she would help you right away that says a lot about her and her character and i just know there's a lot of grief in the community several have reached out to me to talk about this and i just appreciate the work that our police department are doing with regard to this issue and i just want to acknowledge to the family that we have you in our thoughts and prayers and i also just want to acknowledge that there is a gofundme page

was set up by the family to cover funeral costs if anyone here or anyone that's watching is interested in helping the family just wanted to acknowledge that as well and then last mr. Sherman just acknowledging also the great work of our fire and rescue departments with regard to townhome fire in the Franconia district they were able to address what ended up being a 10 townhome fire, three with exterior fire and damages and seven with, excuse me, three with interior and seven with exterior damages. Thankfully, there were no injuries to any of the firefighters or any of the civilians. So I'm grateful for the service of the men and women in our fire department and keeping our community safe. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

Thank you very much Supervisor Lusk and on that last point I had an opportunity to go there last night and to see the damage and I think another thing for our community to be aware of especially with the type of heat that we have in the community now is how quickly that heat can cause fires to occur and this fire started on the exterior of the homes and so obviously a very tragic situation yesterday but because of the speed of our fire department a lot of people's properties and potentially a lot of people's lives were saved and so we can all be diligent uh in in spreading the message um about preventing the 911 call especially in these extreme heat conditions uh that would be most welcome supervisor alcorn
