What tributes and recognitions are given to community leaders at the start of the meeting?

Good morning everyone and welcome to our board meeting of March nineteenth, twenty twenty four. And we are gonna begin this morning as we always do uh with a moment of silence to be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. And before uh we rise for that, let me ask my colleagues if they have anyone in particular that they would like to keep in their thoughts and prayers this morning. Supervisor Jimenez.

Mr. Chairman, uh I want to take a moment to uh recognize the passing of two community leaders in Mason District, Donald De Spirito and Everett Kip Grant Germain the third. Mr. Jermaine spent the last eighteen years as president of the Annandale Boys and Girls Club. He was a soccer fanatic who drafted early from William Mary by the Washington diplomats. Mr. Jermaine was a longtime coach and was known to be a tireless advocate for opportunities for the girls in sports, especially the c at the collegiate level. When he wasn't at the Boys and Girls Club, Mr. Jermaine was with his family. He loved coaching his grandkids. To use their left foot from the time they could walk. Mr. Germain will be greatly missed.

Don Despirito was a well known community volunteer and advocate. Many Fairfax County employees got to know him through his work with the Annandale Christian Community for Action, ACCA. mister Despirito led the ACCA. furniture program which collected donations and delivered furniture to community members in need. This necessary resource was one of the few like it in the county that offered delivery and worked with Health and Human Services Department in this capacity. As one county employee put it, Don was a really kind and caring man who deeply cared about his community. The dedication and commitment shown by mister Germain and Mr Despirto to Fairfax County will be missed and long remembered. We in the Mason District greatly appreciate all they have done for their community.

Um, Dennis Hogue was a longtime resident of Centerville and he passed away recently. Dennis was a real estate agent, but his real passion was history and particularly Centerville history. I remember when I first got elected,

Michael Fry had Dennis show me around Centerville Historic District. He worked with other advocates

Of historical preservation to help establish the Centerville Historic Overlay District in 1986. Personally, Dennis went to great lengths to preserve Centerville's history, including saving a small gas stone gas station from demolition by moving it from Route 29 to its present location on Braddock Road. In 2011, he worked with a nonprofit company that opened a Civil War Museum in that building. The Centerville Planning Day Committee and the Friends of Historic. Historic Centerville recognized Dennis in two thousand nineteen as its Centerville Day Citizen of the Year and honored community historian. Uh he will be missed in his passion for Centerville. Thank you. Thank you very much, uh Supervisor Smith.

Uh this morning we have four presentations, and for each presentation, I will announce the proclamation and invite our speaker down to the podium in front of me. We will then read the proclamation, and after our speaker's remarks, we will all pose for a photo uh from the dais. And first up this morning, we have a proclamation to designate March 31, 2024, as Transgender Visibility Day. And this was requested. Yeah.
