Good morning and welcome everyone to our board meeting of May 21st, 2024. And we will begin our meeting as we always do with a moment of silence to be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. And before we uh rise for that, um I do want to recognize my colleagues for anyone they would like to have us keep in our thoughts and prayers. And I'm gonna just mention two uh individuals. Uh first, uh Dr. Robert Mansker passed away on May 7th and he had been in hospice at Goodwin House and Bailey's Crossroads. But more importantly, uh we know Bob as being very actively engaged in his community, uh served multiple terms as a member of the Fairfax County Board of Equalization. Um and memorial services uh for Bob are scheduled for June nineteenth.

So if we can keep Bob and the Mansker family in our thoughts and prayers. And then secondly Uh sadly, uh Dave Pellegrino, who is our Department of Tax Administration's commercial assistant director, I think all of us know uh Dave really well, uh was headed home from work uh last Thursday, May 16th and was hit from behind uh in Warranton by a vehicle traveling at a very, very high speed. Uh he was airlifted to ANOVA Fairfax Hospital. and underwent a long, uh complicated surgery last Friday. Uh and he knows and and wants us to know he has a very long road to recovery. And so if we could keep uh Dave in our thoughts and prayers, his family, uh his co workers at DTA, um Dave, uh the board is is praying for you and for a full recovery.

Uh with that, if there are other members of the board who would like to be recognized, let me start with Supervisor Palchik. Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Um first of all let me add a a few words for Bob Mansker, who was for a long time a very beloved member of our uh Providence District community. Uh I had a chance to speak with um with his widower Randy yesterday and a few times and I know it's it's a difficult time. Um but I I know that Bob did so much not just here but um nationally so I got a little bit more of his career um from Randy as he's working through the the obituary. Um They they were mo most recently at Goodwin House, having uh retired out of Greenway Downs, where Bob and Randy um had lived after they were married in Rock Spring, um, UC C in Arlington in December of twenty twenty one.

Well they lived there long before that, in the nineteen nineties. They met the love of their life and had a long distance relationship. Um Bob's career actually began um working for Congressman Martin Frost

uh of Texas. Randy believes he was the first Jewish congressman um to have served, Democratic Congressman Texas. He

was the staff director for the joint committee on printing. And then he became the bet deputy public printer to the government printing office. That was his official career. Uh we here in Fairfax knew him as a longtime election official chief during the Democratic years at Graham Greenway Precinct. He served that role for over thirty years. Um he also served on the Board of Equalization uh for over seventeen years in Fairfax County. Um and finally he served with Penny Gross for many years on the US Federal Senate Credit Union Board. Um and he when I came on board he was a parliamentarian for the Fairx County Democratic Committee. Uh many of us knew him as a gentle giant, very thoughtful, very caring, um, and very detail oriented.

And as the chairman said, um the on the nineteenth at ten AM will be the memorial followed by a reception at Rock Spring Memorial Church. And before that will be the viewing and burial on June eighteenth, uh time to be determined. Um and then today we are um joined here by the family of Matt Rice, his wife, his brother, um his family, extended family, his sister in law. It is with such sadness that we share the passing of Matthew Rice on Saturday, May eighteenth, twenty twenty four. Matthew has been a cherished member of the Wayballs Mill sack team since two thousand seven. He's also been a valuable member of the Kilmer Sack team. for the winter, spring and the summer camp programs. M changing the lives of so many kids and families there.
