Jeffrey C. McKay 0:09
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to our board meeting of September twenty-sixt, twenty twenty-three. And uh as a reminder for everyone, in a moment, uh we are gonna rise for a moment of silence uh to be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Uh but before we do that, I'm gonna ask my colleagues uh if they have anyone who would like to be remembered. Uh they would like to have remembered in our thoughts and prayers. And uh let me begin by just mentioning Yeah. Uh first is Bob Mehey. Uh and Bob made a real positive difference uh in our community. Uh he passed away last Thursday. Uh I got the sad news that it was a sudden death from his wife Helen. Uh he served on the county's Trails and Sidewalks Committee, and for over 40 years, uh he was a representative on the Brookland Bush Hill Civic Association, the Franconian Land Use Committee.
Jeffrey C. McKay 1:01
Committee and uh what I remember most about Bob is his early enthusiastic support of what used to be called the Tour de Lee bike ride. He was a huge uh bicycling advocate, uh advocate for public safety, uh, and dedicated literally tens of thousands of hours uh in serving the county at the local level. And if we could keep Bob Mehe, uh his wife Helen and and their family and our thoughts and prayers. And then secondly, I think all of us were uh surprised to learn the sad news about uh Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton, uh who we all uh believed had been diagnosed uh and was diagnosed this April with Parkinson's disease, but but later learned uh that she had a much, much more rare uh near neurological uh condition.
Jeffrey C. McKay 1:50
That is advancing quite rapidly and and recently announced that she would not run uh for another term in Congress. Um I got to know uh Jennifer Wexton back in her days as a state senator. Uh we served together on the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission for years, uh was a strong advocate for so many things, but we will particularly miss uh her expertise on transportation and and the friendship uh that she had with so many of us, but most importantly, uh her work in Congress uh on behalf of Fairfax County and so if we could keep uh Congresswoman Wexton and her family Uh in our thoughts and prayers as she battles uh this new diagnosis. And I know all of us are sending her uh strength as she deals with with this new news.
Jeffrey C. McKay 2:37
Uh with that, um I'd be happy to recognize any of my other colleagues. Let me start on this end with uh Supervisor Palchuk.
Unknown 2:44
Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I just want to second my thoughts for Congresswoman Wexton. Um
Jeffrey C. McKay 2:49
was think about her dressed as superwoman and she really truly was and is a superwoman. Uh an a role model for so many women moms running and serving in public office and I know my heart's broken. Um to hear the l the the sad news um and I'm grateful to her but especially to I believe Her her sons are probably teenagers at this point, uh to think about her loving sons and her husband and their family and how much she has given um to our community. Um and I'm grateful that she'll be able to spend more time with her family. Um, but again, share your thoughts
Mary Ann Somanton 3:25
for her and for her loved ones in these difficult times.
Jeffrey C. McKay 3:28
Thank you. Uh Supervisor Haredy. Yes, I'm very, very sad to announce the passing of Manseek Payan, also known as Ben Payan. Many of uh many of us know his son, Harold Paion. Um but the apple didn't

fall from the tree. Ben was uh was a highly respected member of our Korean community, um, served many years on the board of the Korean Community Service Center. that provides such valuable services to our residents all throughout the uh the M D V uh DMV. Um he was an accomplished author, you know, a poet. He uh wrote weekly articles kind of up until the day he died for the for the Korean Daily, but uh asked that we keep uh Harold and and the rest of his family, uh the the kids and grandkids in our thoughts and prayers.
Jeffrey C. McKay 4:18
Thank you. Uh others who would like to be recognized? Seeing and hearing uh no one else, uh if we could all rise for a moment of silence to be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Jeffrey C. McKay 4:49
And please face the flag.
