Good morning everyone and welcome to our board meeting of September tenth, uh, twenty twenty four. And we're gonna begin our meeting as we always do, uh, which is to recognize uh any individuals that uh sadly we want to keep in our thoughts and prayers, and after those uh intentions we'll all rise for a moment of silence. And uh the board's been away for a couple weeks, so there might be a a number of these folks we want to recognize uh before we rise. And I'm going to begin just by mentioning a few pivotal members of our community that sadly we've lost since the last time we met. Starting with Lou Glickfield. Lou was the founder of Marlowe Furniture, which if you live in this area, you certainly know Marlow Furniture if for no other reason because of their radio ads.

But he was instrumental in Starting that family owned business. Uh over the years, Marlowe Furniture was named a top fifty retailer uh by Furniture Today and received new numerous accolades from industry groups. Uh he was married to his wife Marilyn for seventy-one years. uh and is survived by four children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Uh outside of his business uh interests Lou and his wife Marilyn always gave back uh to their community, have been very philanthropic over the years, establishing the Glickfield Family Foundation to support numerous regional and international charities, including the Anti Defamation League, the Whitman Walker Clinic, Hadassah Hospital in Israel, and World Central Kitchen, uh among many other

Uh, philanthropic efforts uh of Lou Glickfield and his family. So if we could remember him and our thoughts and prayers. Uh secondly, um sad to announce the passing of Gay Shane. Uh those of us certainly in the Richmond Highway Corridor knew Gay Shane well. She passed away on August 15th at the age of 85, is survived by seven children and stepchildren, seventeen grandchildren. Children. and thirteen great grandchildren. Uh and she was all about her family. Uh we knew her of course because she advocated on many causes uh before this board. She was a a longtime member uh board member and chairman of MVLE, uh which many of us are familiar with uh and the work that they do uh for children in particular adults and children with disabilities.

Uh she was also a board member of Operation Renewed Hope Foundation. Uh where I got to know her also is I am a board member of Operation Renewed Hope Foundation which helps homeless veterans uh find shelter and homes and and gay was a pivotal uh part of the South County but also of uh all of Fairfax County. Um also wanna uh pass along the sad news to uh members of our county family uh that have passed away. Jonathan Wood was president and deputy chief of the Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Company 421. Jonathan served over 50 years as a volunteer with FCFRD. He passed away peacefully on the evening of Thursday, August 22nd, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, leadership, and service that has deeply impacted our department and the broader Fairfax County community, and certainly among the ranks of our professional firefighters.

fighters and volunteer uh firefighters, everybody knew who Jonathan Wood was and and the just outstanding service he provided uh to our community. And finally Uh Ed Kilgore. Ed served in the County's Department of Public Safety Communications for over 20 years with the skills of teletype and fire dispatch. His quick wit and sharp mind made him a cornerstone of our fire dispatch operations, where he was fondly known as the voice of 4B on the B-Day shift. Beyond his professional contributions, Ed filled his days with laughter. Delivering puns and endless dad jokes and left a lasting impression with all of us and uh was shared with me that uh whenever anyone asked Ed Kilgore uh how are you doing, uh his response was either it's another day in paradise or finer than a frog's hair split three ways.

Um so I'm sure Ed would really appreciate uh hearing us get a laugh um at at at him um at his expense but he was always uh quite uh the professional but always quite the person who could generate a laugh and what could be a very stressful job certainly over at DPSC and so if we could keep uh Ed and his family uh in our thoughts and prayers as well.
