Good morning folks. We're gonna get started. We're gonna go get uh go ahead and get started, folks. I want to Want to welcome everyone to our board meeting of September ninth, twenty twenty five. And as soon as we can get the buzzer, there we go. I want to welcome everyone to our board meeting of September 9th, 2025. We do have a very busy agenda this morning. Uh we are beginning gonna begin our meeting as we always do, which is uh a moment of silence to be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Um and at this time I'm gonna uh just mention a few things and then ask my colleagues if they would like to have anyone they would like to Recognize for our moment of silence this morning as well. And first, as uh we sit here today, I think we all know that uh on Thursday uh we will commemorate the 24th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
It's it's hard to believe. Uh that was 24 years ago. Uh but we know on that day nearly 3,000 people lost their lives and countless injuries occurred. And they hit close to home here, obviously, with the Pentagon in our backyard, and the work of our own first responders that day and every day to be able to respond for calls for assistance. And I would hope everyone takes a moment on Thursday to remember those who were lost on 9-11 and also to keep our first responders first responders and the work that they do every day. uh in Fairfax County and around our country uh in our thoughts and prayers as well. Um, I also want to uh mention sadly the passing of Wahid al-Husani. Uh Wahid passed away peacefully on August 25th after a brief battle with acute leukemia with his wife Arzina, daughter Lisa, and brother uh Shawcat by his side.
Uh Wahed was a Bangladeshi American who settled in the Washington, D.C. area in 1970. He was founding secretary of the Federation of Bangladeshi Associations of North America, and his warm heart and volunteer efforts extended far beyond the Bangladeshi community throughout Fairfax County. He served as Vice Chair. of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee and remained active in the committee until the day of his passing. He also worked as a legislative specialist for ARP, American Association of Retired Persons, Virginia, and volunteered with Rebuild America and ANOVA Fairfax Hospital. For several years, Wahid also organized an annual food drive benefiting ECHO. a local food bank in Springfield. Wahid was also the longtime precinct captain for Garfield Precinct, and even after that, uh giving that up, I know he was a regular volunteer.
It's it's gonna be strange on elections days uh in the future to visit the Garfield Precinct and not have Wahid there to to greet us. Um he was a wonderful human being who always had a smile on his face and I would ask if we could keep Wahid uh his Family in our thoughts and prayers, that would be appreciated. And with that, I would recognize any other supervisors who would like to mention. Supervisor Harry.
Yes, mister Chairman. It's it's with a heavy heart that I share the news of a fatal student overdose in the West Springfield High School community. uh when it ha it hapwal it happened outside of school grounds it clearly impacts the school Um We were just talking about opioids at our last meeting advertising drug take back day and sadly drug overdoses are still happening in the county. It's especially disheartening when it happens to our youth. I just want to take the time to remind everybody the importance of education in addressing this issue. Uh it can be put in everything and only a small amount. Can kill, prevention and awareness is something we all need to have constantly present. I ask we keep the student, their family, and the West Springfield High School community in our thoughts and prayers.

Uh thank you Mr. Chairman. Um I wanted to remember Paul Siegel, the beloved husband of uh Betsy Martin who passed away on September second, twenty twenty five. Uh for more than thirty years uh Paul and Betsy made their home along Little Hunting Creek where they found they built a life filled with love, laughter, and service to the community.
