Kelly Bergman, the mayor of the very town. So we have a presentation. Take it away. Thank you,
ma'am. I really appreciate the invite here today. I'm excited to share more about the Leesburg movement and what we've been up to to this point. We are in the University of Main Street community.
Let's get started. So this is the current bank of
our board and passing a change. You'll see that Dana Newell, a resident board member, She's resigned as of yesterday, but we have a good editor, Eric Weston, a local resident marketing guru, who takes care of the place as of today. So, a
quick
change. Everything
else you see there is current. So, we are obviously Leithburg's main
community, but there are plenty of other ones throughout the whole region. Do you want to take it away,
Blair? Sure, of course. In November of 2021, Leesburg was accepted into our Virginia Main Street network as an exploring Main Street community. Our exploring tier is our introductory tier into the Main Street program here in Virginia. We have three tiers of participation. The middle tier is mobilizing, and then our advancing Virginia Main Street communities are those that need Main Street America's national standards for program performance. In Virginia, the Main Street program is administered out of the Department of Housing and Community Development. We provide resources to all of our Main Street programs based on their tier level and help them achieve whatever they are looking to achieve. Main Street is really an asset-based
program. It's community driven and it's helping our communities achieve and be the best that they want to be. It's really rooted in preservation and has become a true economic driver in all of our communities. We commend the town of Leesburg. I know it has been a long time coming for you all to get established and become an official Main Street community here in Virginia. We commend you all, the work of the town and Leesburg Movement, the Main Street organization that is taking on this initiative and championing it here locally. You all have also taken advantage of a number of our grants that we offer. So in fiscal year 22, you leveraged our community vitality grant to explore Main Street and determine an implementation plan, what it would look like and how you would get there.
And then you achieved it. You established a leaf work movement, leveraged those funds and are working to become a tax exempt 501C3 organization. And then in fiscal year 23, you also leveraged another community vitality grant for a wayfinding plan or study that you'll be using to kind of refresh and update the wayfinding front to cross downtown. I will say that I'll talk a little bit about our tier system. So I did mention you all are the introductory tier right now. All programs have to go through this three-tier system.
