How does the Leesburg Town Council open its November 14, 2023 meeting?

¶¶
Thank you.
Kelly Burk 2:12
I would like to call tonight's November 14th, 2023 Town Council meeting to order. If anyone in the room needs hearing assistance, please see the clerk. Council Member Bagdasarian will be giving the invocation, followed by the salute to the flag by Council Member Cummings. Council Member Bagdasarian.
Yes, thank you.
Unknown 2:40
Heavenly Father, we are thankful to gather this evening to discuss matters of importance to our community. We ask for clarity in our judgment and decision-making. We ask for civility and empathy in our deliberation. Let us work together to constructively build a better Leesburg for our citizens today and for the future. Let us also keep in mind the families who are suffering from violence around the world, especially in Israel and Gaza, and that they might find peace and the will to coexist. We ask all of this in your name. Amen.

Kelly Burk 5:34
So while she's coming here, let me read it into the record. This is National American Indian Heritage Month, November 2023. Whereas the history and the culture of our great nation has been significantly influenced by the American Indian and the indigenous people. Whereas contributions of the American Indians have enhanced the freedom, prosperity and greatness of America today. Whereas their customs and traditions are respected and celebrated as part of a rich legacy throughout the United States. Whereas Native American Awareness Month began in 1976 and recognition was expanded by Congress and approved by President George Bush in August 1990, designating the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month.
Kelly Burk 6:19
Whereas in honor of the National American Indian Heritage Month, community celebration as well as numerous cultural, artistic, educational, and historic activities have been planned. Whereas we welcome Sydney, and I'm going to say your last name for me, Aquilina, a 2017 graduate of Loudoun County High School and a tribal member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians to accept this proclamation on behalf of the town of Leesburg community. Therefore proclaim that the mayor and the council of the town of Leesburg in Virginia do hereby recognize November as the National American Indian Heritage Month and urge all our citizens to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities proclaimed this 14th day.
Kelly Burk 7:01
Now I'm going to go down and present this to Sydney. Thank you for reminding me.
