Grant us the courage to lead like Moses, who stood before Pharaoh, a powerful ruler, and defied him for the sake of your people. Even though Moses felt hesitant and inadequate, expressing his own doubts and weakness to you, he bravely followed your command. He confronted Pharaoh again and again, enduring threats and hardship, all to liberate the Israelites from slavery and lead them towards the Promised Land.
There's a fascinating human weakness called bystander's effect. This occurs when we find ourselves in a group and tend to follow the behavior of others, even though it goes against our very own judgment. Several YouTube videos show actors lying on busy streets, ignored by hundreds of passersby. Another example depicts a stage kidnapping where a girl screams, he's not my father, yet bystanders simply blend into the crowd and do nothing to help. As elected officials, rabbis, as leaders in the community, we are constantly in the public eye, making us highly susceptible to this bystander's effect.
We naturally desire the approval of our constituents to remain transparent. popular however as role models and community leaders we have a responsibility to defy this tendency and do what we know is right regardless of what others may think so together let us lift our eyes to our creator in heaven and ask not only to grant us wisdom and clarity but also the blessing of strength and courage like moses to do what we know is right regardless of influences Make us leaders in your image, and now let us say amen.
