Grant us clarity in our judgment and wisdom in our decisions. Guide us towards civility, empathy, and collaboration in our discussions as we strive to create a better Leesburg both for today and for future generations. We also hold in our hearts the families impacted by mass violence around the world, whether the events from september eleventh, two thousand one, april sixteenth, two thousand seven, october seventh, twenty twenty three, and the first one. Or September fourth, twenty twenty four. We ask all this in your name. Amen.

Council member Baghdazarian, all in favor indicate by saying aye. Opposed. That passes six zero one. Um we have no certificates of recognition but we do have two proclamations tonight. The first one is constitution week. And I will read this and then ask for a motion. Um Constitution Week, September seventeenth to the twenty-third, two thousand twenty four, whereas the United States Constitution stands as a testament to the tenacity of America Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties, freedoms, and inalienable rights.
And whereas September seventeenth, two thousand twenty four marks the two hundred and thirty-seventh anniversary of the drafting of the Constitutions of the United States of America. By the con uh by the constitutional convention. and we ask the American people to commemorate the anniversary with appropriate ceremonies and activities. Whereas it is fitting and property. to accord official recognition of this magnificent document and its memorable anniversary and to the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate it. Whereas we recognize the Mary Hemming Hemmings Bell chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as accepting this proclamation. And whereas the tradition of celebrating the Constitution was started many years ago by the National Society
Daughters of the American Revolution. In nineteen fifty-five, the DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September seventeenth through the twenty-third annually for the observance of the Constitutional Week. Congress later adopted a resolution to do so and public law nine one five was signed into law on august second, nineteen fifty six by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Therefore proclaim that the mayor and the council of the town of Leesburg in Virginia do hereby proclaim the week of september seventeenth to the twenty third as Constitution Week in the town of Leesburg and urge all citizens to study the Constitution and to reflect on the privilege of being an American with all the rights and responsibility with that pri that privilege involves.
