We have no certificates of recognition, but we do have a couple of proclamations. The first proclamation is Leesburg Day. And I will read it and then ask for a motion. It says the town of Leesburg's Virginia, 266th anniversary, October 12th, 2024. Whereas the town of Leesburg was founded by an act of the Virginia Assembly in September of 1758 that was ratified by the royal governor on October 12th, 1758. Whereas the town of Leesburg was established at its original location at the intersection of two trade routes, the Old Carolina Road, now Route 15, and the Potomac Ridge Road, or Alexandria Road, now Route 7.
Whereas when the town of Leesburg was founded, it consisted of 70 lots across 60 acres owned by Nicholas Minor and has grown to be the largest town in the Commonwealth. And whereas, since its founding, the town of Leesburg has developed into a vibrant and exciting place to live and work with nearly 50,000 residents and over 1,400 employees and a wide range of industries. Whereas the town of Leesburg's rich history includes the hosting of the Marquis de Lafayette during his 1825 farewell tour, presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama during their respective campaigns. Whereas the town of Leesburg has also been home to several notable figures, President James Monroe, World War II General George C. Marshall, Radio Personality Arthur Godfrey, Washington Commanders and Player Jonathan Allen, Author James Dickey, Deliverance, Former Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, PGA Golfer Billy Hurley III, United States Representative Jennifer Wexton, and Olympic Athletes Norvell Lafayette Ray Lee, that was 1952 Olympics boxing, and Windy

Therefore, I proclaim that the mayor and the council of the town of Leesburg, Virginia, hereby recognize the 266th anniversary of the founding of the town of Leesburg, and henceforth recognize October 12th as Leesburg Day, proclaimed this 24th day of September.
