I would like to call to order tonight's Town Council meeting of November 10th, 2025. If anyone in the room needs hearing assistance, please see the clerk. Town Council, Council Member Cummings has invited Rabbi Cohen to do the invocation, and Council Member Steinberg will follow with the salute to the flag. Rabbi, could you join us?

Thank you for this honor. God and God of our fathers, great, mighty, and revered, God, we come before you today as winter weather begins in our region. Jewish wisdom tells us that there are two ways to deal with the danger of cold. The first is to put on a coat. The second is to build a fire. While we know a coat will keep us warm, we are called to build a fire and warm those around us as well. We are not species that hibernate alone or burrow away, but instead that build societies to survive the elements together. And through our unity and community, we endure. So we commit to being sources of warmth in the winter, sources of heat among ice and snow and ice, and sources of comfort throughout the cold.

Rabbi Cohen 4:40

We know this principle does not just relate to physical cold. but the dangers of becoming cool in our commitment to ourselves and our communities. We know that in the presence of warmth, ice melts away. and we strive that our guiding principles should be one of warmth, passion, and love. Love for our family, love for our communities, and of course, love of God. We remember the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem and L'shnereson, that the three loves, love of God, love of Torah, and love of a fellow, are indeed all one. We pray that love banishes any obstacle or chill, and that together we build a community a communal torch of warmth that can light our way. God, I invoke your blessing on this body today, the Leesburg Town Council.

We beseech you, O merciful and graceful God. God, our honorable representatives of the citizens throughout our government, let them continue to make just statutes, and as you commanded us, as one of your seven Noahide laws for all of mankind. Bless their efforts wherever they turn and the cause of humanity on behalf of this town and for the benefit of our people and cause all war and calamity to be ended and an era of peace and justice with the coming of Mashiach with its blessing to begin even in their and our days and let us say amen. At the request of the applicant, the public hearing on TLTPAM 20240001 Leesburg Gateway Town Plan Amendment has been deferred to a future date in early 2026. The applicant advises that it has requested the deferral in order to conduct additional community outreach and to address the concerns expressed in recent emails to the town regarding the application.
