The first one is for the Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, and I'm going to read it and ask for a motion, and then I will take it down to the floor as we finish this. okay um sexual assault awareness prevention month april 2026 whereas for 25 years sexual assault awareness month has united survivors advocates and communities and the shared commitment to end sexual assault abuse and harassment whereas everyday sexual violence affects individuals of all ages races ethnicities gender identities sexual orientation and circumstances across Loudoun County and the Commonwealth.
Whereas most women and men across all sexual identities who experience sexual violence report that person who harmed them as someone they knew. And whereas the crime of sexual violence occurs far too frequently, goes unreported or underreported far too often and leaves a long lasting impact. And whereas all members of the community have a shared responsibility to create an environment that promotes safety, accountability, and respect. Whereas during National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, we recommit ourselves to removing the stigma and shame surrounding the victimization of sexual violence, expanding support for survivors, and increasing prevention, education, and strengthening our response.
Whereas at every level, we must work together to provide necessary resources in our community to assault survivors of every circumstances, including medical and mental health services, relocation and housing assistance, and community and court advocacy during the criminal justice process. And at every level, we must work together to provide the necessary resources to support survivors including basic human needs for shelter, safe, affordable and accessible housing solutions, medical and mental health services and social connection to promote safety and healing from trauma. And whereas the town of Leesburg stands with laws, domestic violence and sexual assault services and other sexual assault response team partners to support all sexual survivors, violence survivors, increase awareness about sexual violence, decrease its frequency, hold offenders accountable and support victims and heal lives.
