Mayor, members of council. Very, very happy to be with you this evening to talk about our favorite topic, stormwater. Let's go ahead and jump right in. Well I'm glad you
like it so much.
We're gonna jump in and give you a quarterly update on the task orders that we authorized after uh you were Uh you authorize support of us to the supplemental appropriation. We also have a few additional program regulatory updates as well as some things on the calendar we want you to be aware of. We came to you back in Late twenty twenty three, we said that there were some categories of items we needed to touch and complete. MS four permit renewal and implementation. uh both current year and deferred items when it comes to stormwater facility inspections and maintenance. And then because of our Chesapeake Bay T M D L requirements, we asked and received funds to jumpstart project development in certain uh priority areas.
The first of the big tasks is the MS4 program plan. We're about eighty-five percent there. Uh all the deliverable documents have been submitted to town staff for review and they've been posted to the website for public comment. Uh we did have a little bit of delay uh based on DEQ's release of new regulations back in December and conversations that we've had with them. We will be submitting final copies of the programme plan along with the town's annual report that's due October one. One of our current year inspection requirements is to look at storm sewer outfalls to understand whether or not stormwater pollution is hitting receiving streams. We set out on a task to inspect a minimum of a hundred outfalls.
We've completed those. Uh reports are on my desk and I'm currently reviewing those. We'll we will have some maintenance items on our hand. Some of those we'll be able to coordinate and hand off to our operations folks. There may be a few that we'll have to outsource to contractors. Uh this is one of those tasks that's weather dependent, but thankfully we're able to get everything under the deadline meeting DEQ's expectations. This is an example of what we've been seeing in the field and it's not something that we're terribly surprised about. You see a lot of debris, you see a lot of sediment accruing at the end of pipe, and in some cases in the photo on the right, you see storm sewer outfalls that are completely buried.
These are things that or regular part of an MS four program. It's why we look at end of pipe not just for pollution but for condition assessment of our assets. The second large task that we took on was the update of our GIS map in relation to our stormwater assets, both our outfalls and our stormwater management facilities. Project completion. We're floating 40 closer to 50 percent after update meetings I had last week. Uh two things related to this task I want to make sure that folks know. We have crossed the threshold of 400 individual stormwater management practices. When we came to you back February and before that in November, we knew this was a possibility. It has been confirmed at this point. We are still reviewing documentation that may or may not push.
this a little higher than four hundred. In our document review, we have also uncovered that there are at least fourteen additional stormwater management facilities that are the maintenance responsibility of the town. So we have planned for an increase. We didn't have a hard number for when we planned for this. So at this point, there's there's nothing scheduled that will keep us from completing this task. We're just we're revealing facts as each day goes by. What I wanted to show you here is uh a draft deliverable of what you're gonna see when you see the map. These blue polygons indicate uh actual stormwater management facilities above ground and some of the text that you see where you don't see blue, those are facilities that are actually underground.
