What is discussed at the start of this Board of Supervisors meeting?
Mm-hmm.
No.
What's that?
Yeah. Uh
Yeah.
What?
Good evening, supervisors. Good evening, staff, good evening Louden. What's happening down here? Mr. Sainz is not coming? Oh he's not coming yet. Okay. I'd like to call to order the March fifth, two thousand twenty-four Loudon County Board Supervisors Business Meeting. This room has a hearing loop. If you need hearing assistance, put your hearing aid to the telecall mode. If you need a headset, we have those available as well. Um please see the clerk to request one. This um evening Supervisor Laterno will lead us in invocation or words of inspiration and the pledge of allegiance. Supervisor Laterno.
Thank you, Madam Chair. Heavenly Father, as we reflect uh on the service yesterday, the celebration of life for our firefighter Trevor Brown. We ask that you look over him and his family. We ask that you look over the family of firefighter Diamond, who's still recovering in the hospital. We ask that the entire
community come together
both
to heal, to give each each other strength. And we ask for your blessings
on all of our first responders and those throughout our country. Amen.
Pledge
allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Okay, supervisors, before I read the consent agenda, I do have two additions too that I'd like to add to the consent agenda. And let me uh let me do those and additions and deletions because I will have to suspend the rules and let me tell you why. So the first um resolution is the the resolution to honor the life and service of firefighter Trevor Brown. So I'm gonna I'm going to make a motion to suspend the rules.
Like.
Motion's been made and seconded by Mr. Um Turner as Trevor Brown was his constituent. Uh discussion on that motion. All people say aye. Any opposed? That motion will pass eight zero one. And then I move the board of supervisors to approve the resolution honoring the life and service of firefighter Trevor Brown provided um as attachment one to the March fifth, two thousand twenty four Board of Supervisors Business Meeting Action Item. Motion is maintained by Supervisor Turner again. Discussion on that motion. All in people who say aye. Any opposed? That motion will also pass 801. Um second motion I'm going to make, and this has been the rules for this too, is to change the number of people, the composition on the on the ACOI board.
Most of our um Well n I can't let me just make the motion and I'll explain in when when we get to the motion. I make a motion to suspend the rules. Motion is made and seconded. Discussion on the motion. All people say aye. In the oppose Um that motion passed 801. Okay. I may with the loud and came board supervisors increase the size of the advisory commission by youth by one at large member in order for the commission to have a an odd number of voting members. That's a m that's a motion. Okay. So what I'm trying to do on the Commission of Youth is this if you uh I m we have been doing kind of a a second deep dive on all of our commission's committees. And almost all of 'em have an odd number of people on 'em for the purpose of voting.
It's ver it's not it is fairly rare to have a tie vote, but it has happened and I will tell you that I I want to do this term a little bit more of the C S B board and the Commission on Youth, um, as far as I I'd like to bring to the to this board to give th those two boards jointly um the authority to do a white paper uh surrounding um substance use with our youth in Loudoun County and um w why we think it inc has increased if it's increased and what do we do and hear from the commissions ourselves. So for the two commissions that I'm really gonna do put to task on those two things and they will partner with uh Friends of Loud and Mental Health. I don't want to have an even number of votes on that board because it just doesn't make any sense.
And so it's just better to have an odd number. So if there's ever so there's never a reason to have a tiebreaker.
