Thank you. Well, good evening, Supervisors, good evening, staff, and good evening, Loudoun. I'd like to call to order the June 18th, 2024 Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Business Meeting. This room has a hearing loop. If you need hearing assistance, please switch your hearing aid to the telecom mode. If you need a headset, we have those available as well. Please see the clerk to request one. My only words of quote inspiration today is for the class of 2024. This happens to be graduation season and I have attended five graduations so far. I believe we have 20 high schools in Loudoun County and so we have a lot of people graduating. If there are any graduates listening to us right now, or your families, I would first say congratulations.

A high school graduation is a huge, huge accomplishment. I would also say that you are 17, 18, 19 years old. If you do not know what you want to do with the rest of your life, that really is okay. You have plenty of time to figure out the entire rest of your life. If you're going to the military, that is so admirable, and we thank you for your service. If you're taking a gap year, I actually wish I had given my sons a gap year before sending them off to college. Gap years really help people grow and learn new things. My only major, I have two pieces of major advice. Well, also, if you're going into the workforce, we need people in the workforce, especially the trades. I say all the time, you can have 20 PhDs and doctors in one room, but if you need a plumber, you need a plumber.

And so the trades are an admirable way to serve and you can make a very, very good living in the trades. My two pieces of advice are this, at some point young people put down your electronic devices and go outside and have a good time. Not all wisdom and all entertainment and all of everything is on those electronic devices. You're going to be able to, you have to kind of broaden that mind and have more experiences and you do that by putting down your electronic devices. My second piece of information to you is call home. When your moms and dads and grandmas and grandpas and aunts and uncles really need to hear from you. They need to hear your voice. And if you don't call home, they might show up at your dorm.

And you would way rather call home than have them show up at your dorm, wouldn't you? But the other thing is, is although you're 18, you're not really quite adults yet. You're legal, but you're not adults, and so you're gonna make mistakes, and when you make mistakes, your parents might get mad at you, but that's okay, because they'd rather be mad at you than have something serious happen that they can't fix. And so if you get into a jam or a fix or a problem, call your parents, call your grandparents, call the people who have been walking around, clutching your baby pictures for the past two weeks, looking at you and crying. Call those people because they are there for you every step of the way. I would say that the nine of us up here, actually the 11 of us, because I will include Mr. Rogers and Mr. Hemstreet, believe in you totally.

Okay, Mr. Saenz will not be joining us tonight because he actually is at one of those graduations. He's at the graduation for Parkview High School, which starts this evening. Ms. Rixman is going to be running a little late because she's also coming from a graduation of Potomac Falls High School. Mr. Letourneau, I think, is running from work. He will be here, but he is just running a little bit late.
