I'm Catherine Moran and I'm here as a mother, a teacher, and a staunch advocate for students with disabilities.

My twenty one-year-old daughter is in her last year of public education eligibility. Um, so I speak not just from my professional expertise, but my personal experience and where we are right at this moment in our family. I am proud to be a CAST teacher within Loudoun County Public Schools, working with our eighteen to twenty-two year old population, workforce development, and independent living focus. I was hired by LCPS to manage the career assessment center that was housed at Monroe Tech Center. And um Unfortunately, that center no longer operates because a small group of individuals fail to recognize its immense value. We cannot let that kind of oversight happen again. Establishing the L C P S Transition Center is not just a necessity, it's an investment in our students, our economy, and our community.

Allow me to explain. Educating and assessing students in secondary education rather than relying on adult services provides three critical benefits: early insight and intervention, cost savings, and workforce development. These students are an untapped workforce. With proper training and assessment, they will meet the needs of local employers who are struggling to find skilled workers. There are some key statistics that I'll try to shoot out. Students with disabilities who receive transition services in high school are two and a half times more likely to be employed after graduation. Transition programs that include vocational training, job coaching, and internships lead to an 86% increase in employment outcomes compared to those who do.
