Oh, nice. That was fast. Thank you. Unfortunately, I need to announce that in recent weeks, several of our neighboring elected decision-making bodies have been subjected to disruptive racist verbal attacks by anonymous callers during virtual public comments. The city of Mountain View is fully committed to racial, religious, and cultural equity and justice as we strive to create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive community for all. The council welcomes respectful and non-threatening public comments regarding matters over which the council has jurisdiction. Comments deemed otherwise pursuant to the council code of conduct and the government code may be grounds for terminating a speaker's comment period.

With that said, we'll move on to item number three, which is presentations. Please note that this is a presentation only. The City Council will not take any action and public comment will occur after the presentation item. If you'd like to speak on this item in person, submit a blue speaker card to the City Clerk now. So I will come up to the podium, and the presentation today is on the National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. So it's a proclamation regarding that. We are happy to be joined this evening by Shabana Ansari, Legal Advocacy Coordinator, Maitri, to accept this proclamation. MATRI is a Santa Clara County-based domestic violence organization dedicated to helping families and individuals from South Asia facing domestic violence, emotional abuse, cultural alienation, and family conflict.

So this is a very long proclamation, which you can bring home with you. I will not read the whole thing, but I'll read some selections. So it's a City of Mountain View proclamation reading, whereas, although progress has been made towards preventing and ending domestic violence and providing support to survivors and their families, important work remains to be done. and whereas domestic violence programs in California provide essential life-saving services for survivors, their children, and communities, and whereas there's a need to provide education, awareness, and understanding of domestic violence and its causes, And whereas there is a need to support and amplify prevention programs and community-based strategies to create healthy environments and decrease the likelihood of perpetration, thereby stopping domestic violence from occurring in the first place,

and whereas there were 84 domestic violence-related homicides in California in 2022, of which 63 of the fatalities were female and 17 were male, and whereas domestic violence affects people of all genders, sexual orientations, ages, racial, ethnic, cultural, social, religious, and economic groups in the United States and here in California.
