Um, and the proclamation reads, whereas May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. API and HPI encompasses all the Asian continent and the Pacific Islands. Whereas the official designation of May as AAPI and HPI Heritage Month was signed into law into 1992 and celebrates a variety of contributions that have built our culture and society, and whereas the theme for this year's observance is a legacy of leadership and resilience, which honors the hard work of leaders who establish a foundation for future generations to thrive and adapt to change and adversity. And whereas we acknowledge the contributions of leadership of the many AA, PI, and HPI who have played a significant role in Mountain View in the fields of agriculture, arts, commerce, education, government, and science, and many others.
