What was the roll call and quorum confirmation at the start of the meeting?
The August meeting of the Prince William County Historical Commission, please come to order. It is now 7.30 p.m. and we are meeting at the Developmental Development Services Building, Prince William, Virginia.
Please rise for the plenary meeting.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. We have a moment of silence. Our clock goes on its way. We ran at other locations.
The secretary takes the roll. Kim. Here. David. Here. Eric. Present. Jim. Here. John Davis. Here. John DePute. Here. Marion. Here. George. Here. Vanessa is absent. Yolanda. Present. Doug is absent. Blaine. Here. David Peterson. Here. Ernie is absent. Curtis. Here. Mr. Chairman, here is a quorum. Thank you. Do we have any requests for any more participation? We do not. Thank you. Does anybody wish to move for approval of the meeting board meeting resolution from last meeting? In addition to the brief? To the minute. To the minute? Okay, I can't hear you. That's why I'm asking. The minutes from the last meeting that we were speaking about, there was just one thing that I appreciate you catching the comment about Bennett School and the whole business.
There was just one other thing I had asked about if anyone knew what the county's plans were for looking for those who remain. Okay, I don't have that down in my notes. And I would suggest that when I send it out, if you see a problem, that you let me know then so I can go back and maybe check the recording. Can somebody explain to me how that happens? How what happens? So if we have... I don't do a verbatim of meeting. And I'm not required to. Understood. But if there's discrepancies usually in the agenda, they're typically addressed. The agenda or the brief? The brief. It's typically submitted with the agenda via email or via mail to various commissioners depending on how they have it set up. Everybody gets it electronically.
Some don't have, so they don't need a hard copy. Right. So then if there is an error or an omission or if something's not jiving, then does that not get corrected during a historical commission meeting? Well, if I know that it happened, but as I said, I don't have that in my notes. And
everything doesn't get into the brief because that would be a verbatim and we don't do a verbatim. Well, I hear a motion to approve. I'm doing the best I can with what I have, but I don't write down every single thing people say. I can't. Once more, I would say, do I hear a motion to approve? Mr. Chairman, I move that we approve the minutes with any necessary corrections. And that will allow him to submit. Did you make the motion? Yes. All in favor? Yes. Who is second? Okay. All in favor? Aye. Opposed? Nay. Abstain. Okay. We have a no.
How did the commission approve the minutes from the previous meeting?
Is that what we're saying? No, he said abstention. No, I thought no. He said no. Okay. And Blaine? Yes. And Curtis. And Mary. And Mary.
Okay, do we have citizens time? Okay, I'm going to take a couple of minutes to revise a few of the things that I said at the last meeting. We almost didn't get to have a last meeting last month because we didn't have a quorum. Fortunately at 10 minutes and 8 we did have a quorum and we were able to conduct the meeting. Part of the reason we are unsure whether we have a meeting is because not everybody bothers letting us know whether or not they'd be here. We have to bear in mind that we are not a social club. We are a governmental organization and we have to adhere to rules. One of those rules is regular attendance. So I would please ask everyone to try to be here with regularity. If you can't be here, let the secretary know in a timely manner and do what you can to get the materials that you have and the responses that you have to her in a timely manner so we can take them under advice.
Second matter I want to mention is when you come to the meeting, you must become prepared to give us an answer as to what your ask is for your action. Throwing out a bunch of speculation like spaghetti on a wall and hoping that something sticks is not the equivalent of an ask.
