Evening, Mayor and Council. Thank you for the opportunity to be here to talk about uh the latest update in the biggest investment in transportation infrastructure this county's made, the extension of phase two of the of BART to Silicon Valley. Um tonight's agenda that I'm going to share with you, again, this is informational, uh, is going to be an overview of where the project is at and what how much has changed since the last time we were before you about a year ago. Uh I'm also going to give you detailed updates on the recent redesign of the Santa Clara station. I think we made some mi very important uh progress in in redesigning the station in a way that hopefully will better meet the needs of Santa Clara residents and riders.
Tom McGuire 6:53
And we'll talk about Uh ways in which we're engaging the Santa Clara community, as well as some detailed information about the treatment at Champions Way as part of our plan. And of course, time for your questions. For those of you who haven't met me before, I'm Tom McGuire. I'm the Chief Mega Projects Officer for the VTA and that means I'm in charge of delivering the BART program. I've been with the agency for about five months and I have the pleasure of working with uh Councilmember Jane in his capacity as a BART director. Uh a VTA director rather. Um let's talk about where the project's at. And this is of course as you know phase two of the extension of BART to Silicon Valley, the completion of the decades-long dream bringing the regional rapid transit system into Santa Clara County.
Tom McGuire 7:35
The BART service is already open to Berriesta in North San Jose. We already do have BART service in the county and within the city of San Jose. But phase two is the final piece of the puzzle. It is bringing the service from the Berriesta road station through downtown San Jose through six miles of rail, five miles of which will be in a large single board tunnel, and the final mile uh at grade. in a total of four new stations, three of them in San Jose at Little Portugal, downtown San Jose, the Dirodon Intermodal Station, and the fourth will be here in Santa Clara, directly adjacent to the Santa Clara Caltrain station.
