There was a big narrative, I remember, from the last lot of local elections, which was, oh, we're going to come in and we're going to cut waste and we're going to cut DEI initiatives and all that kind of thing.
And the experience, once people got into power, seemed to be that actually, well, you can do a bit of that, but the sort of sums of money are fractional.
Not to say there isn't waste in local government.
Of course there is.
You write about it constantly in your column.
But they're fractional compared with the actual, you know, the adult social care budget and all those kind of big things.
Has that sort of gone away as a narrative now, or are people still pushing there is some money down the back of the sofa?
