If I remove myself from that, Celeste was never given anything, anything you might say to a victim about what to do to keep her safe.

But if I don't persist with this, I feel like I not only let her down that night, but
But I'm letting her down miserably by absolutely allowing her death to be in vain.
This, they promised me change.
It has to bring about change.
It has to prevent murders that are preventable.

But the system and how it continues to beat you down, how things can take this long, it just, I remember saying at the start of this to Celeste, sweetie, if your death didn't kill me, this system will.
It's just too, it's too unfair, it's too harsh, it's too uncaring.
I continue to repeat myself, victims don't choose to be victims.
And there should be a lot more there for victims.
to keep them safe, but when they're not able to be kept safe, certainly to validate that their life was worth something.
They never should have said a damn thing.
I don't think I was even aware to, you know, are we entitled to anything when this first happens?
Remember, you don't go into the justice system understanding or knowing anything about it.
