Here's what I find funny.
He asked him for one, which is the greatest.
Then he said, the second is this.
He didn't ask for two, he asked for one.
But he gave him two.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no commandment
greater than these.
It's almost like it's two for one, like they go together.
Well, what's funny is then the guy, the teacher of the law, just think you're having a conversation with
unbeknownst to him, with the creator of the universe, who wrote the law, he made you.
Who is the Lord God.
And then he's like, well said, teacher.
So now you're going to affirm the creator of the universe.
Good job, the man replied.
You're right.
Just think of how this is not aging well.
You're actually given approval now.
You're right in saying that God is one and there's no other but him.
To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbors yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.
