Well, I think Jack, honestly...
When I first saw him at the comedy store, and this was about 1989, he was the funniest.
Yeah.
The place was in hysterics.
And he wasn't in a sharp suit then.
He rode a motorbike to gigs.
He'd pull his crash helmet off.
His hair was all beskeweth.
His jumper would be a bit pulled to one side.
He'd go on stage and he'd go, I hate fat people.
LAUGHTER
But then he'd be really funny about that.
And then he'd go, I eat thin people as well.
And he was the king of the comedy store, you know.
But one of my contemporaries was Eddie Izzard.
And Eddie Izzard...
was not funny at the start just it was very strange and a bit peculiar and he'd come off the street doing street and then about a year after about a year he just cracked it yeah and then he was the funniest thing you'd ever seen in your life i remember doing a gig with him that i'd organized at my old university and he said can i is it all right if i do longer because i booked his book for 20 you know i said if you want and he did 45 minutes i mean mainly about the bible
and you should have some sort of agenda, you know.
And then I started talking about my granny knitted me a jumper when I was a kid and everyone's laughing so much at this.
And then every time I've told this story, I think of some other detail about how small the neck was or the way she knitted or something.
