It's a fancy phrase, but what he basically means is more and more of what's around us is impossible for us to understand.
So, or even feel like we understand.
I have no idea what's happening in this computer.
I have no idea how to fix my computer.
I have no idea how any of this technology works.
I don't know how my microwave works.
Even cars.
You used to be able to fix a car if you were pretty good with cars in the 1950s or 60s.
You just open an engine.
Every engine was like basically the same.
You know, now you got to plug it into a computer.
Everything's very distant.
We don't know where our food comes from.
Same reason people like farmer's markets.
And so that's deeply disempowering.
It makes us feel like we depend on experts and authorities that are beyond our control.
We're sort of, we just have to kind of take what we get.
We can't fix it ourselves.
So yes, I absolutely think a part of the appeal of natural, and this is a part of it that I actually really empathize with,
It's just people being like, hey, man, I don't like living in a world where I don't know where stuff comes from and I don't understand how it was made.
