I wonder where he goes because if I had to make a bet right now, I think the team that would acquire him is still playing or maybe just got knocked out.
You know, do the Lakers try to pair him with Luca?
Do the Cavs make a desperation move and try to pair him with Mitchell if they think Mitchell can sign an extension there?
I think the biggest thing to your point, though, is, you know, he's 31.
He played 36 games this year, and he is owed $58 million next year, and then that $275 million extension that he would obviously want over four years.
We're talking about almost $70 million a season for a guy in the final years of his prime and maybe a few out of them.
That's tough.
So you have to trade everything but the kitchen sink to get him and then give him a boatload of money and...
weigh down your cap sheet to build a contender around him.
And that's where I think this is going to be very interesting of, is it a Kevin Durant-type trade where it's like two first and two rotation players, something like that, where he's making $58 million next year.
I think it's going to be a very interesting process because who gets desperate to swing a move for him?
And to your point, too, of who would go for him,
The Knicks are playing right now like they don't need him, but they have an erratic owner who might decide if they get destroyed by the Thunder in the finals, we need him, let's trade everybody.
So how long does this go?
Because the team that might want him the most or might...
be desperate enough, might still be playing, so this would drag.
But what do you give up for him when you're trying to keep the team competitive for him, give him all this money, and then find a way to make the roster work around him?
It's a very tough balancing act that I don't envy the guys trying to trade for him will have to do.
I think to your point, you know, to use a Lakers metaphor, the deal the Lakers got for Luka, in my opinion, is the kind of deal you would need to get for like an aging star of sorts where, again, obviously the Luka deal was a travesty and then should have never been legally allowed and whatnot.
But my point is basically that, you know, I don't speak for Kevin Durant, but, you know, he's talked about, you know, if you're going to trade for someone like me, you have to gut the whole team.
